“Through beading and quillwork, I’m able to focus on the present moment, channeling my energy into something beautiful, which in turn helps me feel more connected to myself, my culture, and my family.”

Hi, I’m Carly, an Indigenous artist from Curve Lake First Nation in Ontario, working with beadwork, quillwork, and caribou tufting.

My work is deeply embedded in connection to the land. Nature, animals, and seasonal rhythms shape the colours, textures, and forms I’m drawn to, especially in my signature tufted mushroom pieces. Creating with my hands helps me slow down, stay present, and remain grounded, it’s both a creative practice and a form of healing.

I began beading about four years ago and haven’t stopped since. After leaving school, I took workshops in tufting and quillwork and quickly fell in love with working across multiple mediums. I harvest my own quills and dye my own caribou hair, allowing each piece to stay closely connected to the land it comes from.

As a mother, my art is also about legacy. I create with the hope of building a better future for my children, one where culture is carried forward, traditions remain alive, and pride in who we are is something they can hold onto. I’m not just creating heirlooms, but stories, connections, and work meant to last.

Thank you for being here and for supporting Indigenous art made with care, intention, and respect.
